Mamie Geneva Doud, future wife of Dwight D. Eisenhower, was born at 718 Carroll Street, Boone, lowa. After the Doud family left Boone, the home was remodeled into apartments and then purchased by the First Baptist Church and used for Sunday School. In 1970, the Birthplace Committee was formed to move and restore the building. After five years of restoration, the Birthplace was dedicated on June 22, 1980. It now houses a library and museum which display articles from her life.
