Over the River and Through the Woods to Grandma's House We Go are words that echo memories of travel to distant relatives for food, fun and holiday cheer. Most popularly known as a song sung by children, the words were originally written as a poem by author Lydia Maria Child. Published in 1844, the poem appears in Volume Two of Flowers for Children. The poem was adapted for a Thanksgiving Day song, eventually making way for a more popular Christmas version titled, A Merry Christmas at Grandmother's.

No matter which version is sung, the song itself brings back fond memories, the first line turning back the clock for those that are older and creating anticipation for those that are younger. With her unique style, Pat's imagery calls us to remember these wintertime outings.

Pat has created three distinct images capturing these timeless moments. Over the River has a young boy carrrying his skates while bravely crossing the frozen river. Through the Woods depicts a young girl pulling a sleigh with a large package, as a "snow-couple" watches from a distance. Finally, in To Grandma's House We Go, the children are depicted hand-in-hand in front of a white frame house, sleighs in tow.

Established Moss collectors can credit Museum purchases to their local Moss gallery with a letter of introduction from the gallery.

Guided tours of the Museum are available during the Open House. Admission is free.
